It's getting close to walk day so time is running out to support a great cause...

HIV and AIDS affect us all. We have all loved someone, worked with someone, known, been touched in some way shape or form by, someone who has contracted this illness. Too many of us have had to watch as that someone dies from this. HIV and AIDS affect each and every one of us in some way...

  • Women in New York City are an increasingly growing population of those at risk for HIV. In 2004, women represented 31.2% of HIV diagnoses and 34.6% of deaths. It is estimated that by 2010 women will account for 50% of all AIDS cases in New York City.
  • Nearly half of all new HIV diagnoses are among young people 25 and under with most being infected through sex. Two -thirds of sexually experienced youth have never had an HIV test.
  • In New York City, 17% of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the first half of 2005 were in people 50 and above. 24% of those receiving a concurrent AIDS diagnosis were 50 and above, suggesting that these adults were more likely to get sick before they learn they have HIV. In other words, they could be spreading this disease and not even know it.
Let's work together to eradicate this illness and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

May you always have
Walls for the winds,
A roof for the rain,
Tea beside the fire,
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all your heart might desire
May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks.
May your heart be as light as a song.
May each day bring you bright happy hours,
That stay with you all year long.
For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.

Hope you're wearin green today!

As many of you already know, I have participated in AIDS Walk NY for the past 4 years and I am looking forward to doing so again this year.

I know the economy is tough right now  and understand donating your usual amounts may not be possible. However, every penny counts. Thank you in advance for any contribution made to the fight against AIDS. Your support in helping me meet my fundraising goal which benefits AIDS Walk New York/GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis) is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to make a donation  (or know anyone who would) please follow the link below:

A little info:

AIDS Walk New York, the world’s largest AIDS fundraising event, benefits Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and over 30 other tri-state area AIDS service organizations.  GMHC is the nation’s oldest and most comprehensive AIDS service organization, serving approximately 15,000 people living with HIV and AIDS and their families each year, and countless more through its prevention and advocacy work locally and nationally.

Even though there has been success with drug treatments that are prolonging some people's lives, they don't work for everyone.  These treatments can also take their toll physically, and for many cause awful side-effects.  I am also concerned that so many young people in New York City are getting infected.  There is a dire need for comprehensive prevention programs and services that target youth in their language.  And above all, there is still no cure in sight.

Again, thank you for your time and support!

Ryan

First seen in [info]madlori 's page...

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride.
Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.

Buttercup: You mock my pain.
Westley: Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
